June 10, 2018

Following on from Jay’s Piano Blog comes one of our amazingly talented friends Laura.

Laura set up her business a few years ago making cupcakes and her business has grown and grown from there on. She now makes cakes for all occasions, including wedding and you’ve never tasted anything like her cakes, they’re extra special!

We also have an exciting project coming up with Laura in the next few weeks!

So if you’d to know about Laura’s Cakery business and what it’s all about, then read on!

Tell us a Little Bit about You & Your Business:

I started the ‘Laura’s Cakery’ (initially Laura’s Cupcakes) in 2015, I’d always loved baking and decided to turn my hobby into a business. I have progressed from solely offering cupcakes, to large occasion cakes, and in the last year to making wedding cakes.
I’m based in Ormskirk and work from my own kitchen.

Future plans include creating time to focus on wedding cake design (whilst still offering occasion cakes), and expansion to create tutorial/teaching experiences.
I am currently undertaking a professional cake design diploma through a very prestigious London based cake academy.

How is Your Business related to Weddings?

I make wedding cakes ?
I hold monthly wedding cake consultation days and offer slots to discuss wedding cake ideas and of course cake tasting!

What was the most important thing for your Wedding Day?

Hmmmm… for me at the time, the dress. Looking back, it’s the recording of the day whether it’s pictures or a video. Features of the day are so important, but every day after is about the memories.

What do You think are the Upcoming cake #Trends?

Drippy cakes are still big, contemporary sharp edges and abstract, metallic designs are still trending.

Marbled effects seem to be becoming popular, the use of gold leaf, and watercolour designs.

What’s Your Favourite Part of Your Business? And What’s Your Favourite Flavour?

My favourite cake flavour is raspberry and white chocolate ?
I love drippy style cakes and/or anything pretty/typically feminine/beautiful with vintage touches, frills, lace, blush/pearl tones etc.

How Early should Your Couples get in Touch if they Want to Book You?

Ideally, as early as possible to guarantee the date, however I’ve made a few ‘short notice’ wedding cakes too so it’s always worth an ask if it’s last minute.

If you could Offer any Advice to a Couple currently Planning their Wedding, What would it Be?

Meet your potential wedding suppliers, you will get a vibe as to whether they are on the same level of understand in terms of what your wedding plans/values/wishes are.

Don’t just go with the cheapest, or even on reputation – meet them and talk about your plans, you will know that way whether they can be trusted with your wedding visions.
